The integration of digital media, network technology and cultural industry has promoted the unparalleled development of digital media industry. The development of big data, cloud computing and Internet Plus technology as well as the increasing demand for relative technologies, the demand for talents in the digital media technology has increased greatly.
The rapid development of digital media industry benefits from the support and instruction provided by the constant breakthrough of digital media technologies. Digital media technology is an inter-discipline that integrates digital information processing technology, computer science, digital communication and network technology, etc. Led by information science and digital technology and based on the theory and technology of information transmission, digital media technology applies information transmission technology to culture, arts, commerce, education, management, etc. Digital media, including images, texts, and a variety of other data formats such as audio, video, adopts digitization in transmission means and contents. It has become the newest information carrier after language, text, and electronic technology. Therefore, it is a totally new development and extension of the traditional print media.
Digital media technology mainly researches the theories, methods, technologies and systems of the whole life cycle of digital media information, including acquisition, processing, storage, transmission, management, security, output and distribution. The main key technologies and contents include the real-time acquisition, visualization technology, safe storage technology, highly-efficient processing technology, transmission technology, management and mining of digital information.
The main research directions of digital media technology in our department are the following four aspects.
(1) Big data analysis and processing technology. We researches basic theories of big-data (data fragmentation routing, data replication and consistency theory), the systems and architecture of modern distributed computing systems that process big data (streaming data real-time processing, cluster resource management and scheduling, distributed coordination system, distributed communication system and data communication channel). We analyze the algorithms and data structure of structured, semi-structured and unstructured big data, as well as the modern documents system which store big data and database technology (memory database, distributed file systems, column type databases), and investigates the characteristics of big data from media (traditional media, network media, social media). More specifically, we explore the in-depth learning, mining and visualization application and technology of media data and make use of big data method to promote the integration of traditional print media, television media and network media.
(2) Digital Content Management. In the context of big data technology, guided by the theories and methods of in-depth learning, we focus on the acquisition, storage, processing, retrieval and analysis of digital content. The research mainly involves the visual detection and perception, safety and storage of digital content, digital image enhancement and visual quality assessment, automatic parsing and generation of digital page, image/video retrieval based on semantics and content, text and image semantic extraction and cognitive reasoning. The goals of these researches are to serve the storage, processing, recombination and output of digital information in printing, publishing and relative areas.
(3) Reproduction and publishing of digital information. We study the digital information reproduction and publishing technology in digital media platforms such as network media and mobile media, as well as in 3-dimensional environment such as virtual reality, to serve the technology demand in new style digital media, such as Web-to-Print, Digital Publishing and 3D Printing.
(4) New media presentation. We focus on the means and forms of the integration of digital media, trans-media and traditional media, as well as new media, such as the key technology in Augmented Reality Publishing production and transmission, Lenticular Stereo Image Synthesis and Realistic Reproduction, Image Acquisition, Synthesis and Coding of 3D Digital Television, etc.
