On July 1st, 2009, with my luggage and my dream, I went to Guangzhou. And like all the freshmen, I started a new life with full hope.
I have been to two universities for my bachelor degree. My college entrance examination grades were 10 scores over the required scores of the first-class universities. I was rejected by Wuhan University of Technology and ended up in Chengdu University of Technology instead. I quit school after careful consideration and started my second university entrance examination. I fulfilled my dream and was finally admitted by Wuhan University after six months of hard work. I emphasize this fact here and now because the experience of my second examination in 2004 has a very positive influence on my later life. Before that what I did was far less than what I thought. Thanks to the two examinations, I am no longer arrogant and become down-to-earth and mature. This experience convinces me that enough efforts plus correct method equals success.
Now I’d like to focus on study in university, which I will put it into two categories: theory and practice.
My goal for theoretical study was to ensure that grades of each subject had to be more than 80 without any cheating, which was the principle I stuck to for all my college years. Although I never won a scholarship, I never regretted it because I didn’t waste my parents’ money and I lived up to my expectation for myself. For practical study, I participated in many competition and examinations related to my major. Moreover, I took part in social activities and accumulated knowledge and skills in dealing with people, which in my opinion is even more important than the theoretical study to some extent.
Having been working for 6 years, I have something to share with you—the improvement of emotional quotient is as important as study. After all there isn’t much difference among all the fresh graduates. Of course good grades and practice experiences serve as stepping stones to society, but you must pay more attention to details and arm yourselves with soft power if you want to be ahead of others. Sometimes you may get confused in your pursuit of dreams, but do keep it in mind that persistence makes success.
In the end, I want to conclude my speech with the remarks from Chinese Partners impressing me most: the most important thing in our life is to make a change, including changing everyone and everything around us; the only thing that should remain unchanged is the courage at this moment, and if we can do that, we will surely change the world in the end.
