Time flies. Four years has passed since my graduation. And it is really a great honor for me to take this opportunity to share with you my life experience.
I myself believe that, as a combination of manufacturing industry and service industry, printing and packaging industry, on the one hand, is developing by leaps and bounds along with the application of computer science and internet; on the other hand, there is still much room for further development in terms of industrial structure and market.
I got to see the combination of traditional and new media, the bright future of color management, large-scale printing, RIP application and the digital assets management system thanks to the one-year work experience in New York. The prosperity of internet and intellectual equipment not only poses great challenges to traditional industry, but also creates enormous consumer demands, which are directly related to cross-media color matching and large-scale printing system.
On the first day of my career, the director took me to a bar for amusement because the customer we had intended to visit needed one more day to get fully prepared. Pointing at the various foreign wine bottles on the bar counter, he said to me in English: “ We are everywhere! Eighty percent of your life is related to our services!”. And my later work proved that he’s right. From the traditional advertisement companies to fashion design companies, then to research institutions and even government departments, they are all equipped with large-scale printing system and color management service.
All these things that seem simple are not really simple at all. However, a good command of these is exactly what we should achieve in our university. All the university courses we take will lay a solid foundation for our understanding of the latest science and technology and the development of the society, and even for our creativity in the future. College years study can create values even before the graduation as long as we have a try. I guess some of you may have heard of the network system integrating courses selection and social activities developed by a senior of Wuhan University.
During my years in America, I often felt that science and technology developed too fast while I realized this too late in contrast. When I came to New York, the one-year commercial study widened my horizon and helped me realize the importance of expressing oneself and the significance of being positive when dealing with people and things. I also realized that I can not rely only on commercial study to make a difference. In my opinion, commercial study can provide width instead of depth, but what a youngster need most should be the latter one, namely a field where he can give initiatives into full play and accumulate knowledge and experience.
The year in RIT helped me to recognize the importance of combination of theoretical study and practice, and also made me absorbed in scientific research, which is exactly what we need now, and what we fight for indefatigably.
In the summer of 2013, when I came to San Francisco Bay Area for the first time, soon I felt the vitality at the sight of substantial scientific and technological enterprises and research centers in Silicon Valley. If New York represents America with the combination of capital and diversification, then Silicon Valley surely represents a America with the combination of latest science and technology, capital and creativity.
In the past, I thought that different majors would lead to different us. However, now I believe that different ways are waiting for different us. There are two points that of vital importance: one is a clear understanding of yourself, and the other is full preparation and enough efforts. Four-year university life is precious because it is a relatively free environment in which we can understand ourselves and lay a solid foundation, and in which trial and error is allowed. At the same time, it is a great opportunity for us to make friends with excellent people. Therefore, we can never waste our university life because the society is much crueler than we thought it could be.
All these are what I got to understand in the past 4 years after my graduation. I hope that all of you can face up to challenges, climb to the top, and make the best of your precious youth.
Let us get better together!
