Ministry of Education of China held a news conference on January 29, 2013, to release the result of the Third Round of National University Discipline Assessment(NUDA). According to the released documents, there were 23 primary disciplines of Wuhan University (WHU) rank top 10 in China, and School of Printing and Packaging(PPS), which was the only department of “Light Industry Technology and Engineering” primary Discipline in WHU, ranked parallel 7th in China.
There were 47 primary disciplines of WHU participated in this assessment, and 16 of them ranked top 7 in China. It is reported that there were only 4 of 15 primary engineering disciplines of WHU ranked top 7.By the way, PPS ranked parallel 12th in the 2nd round of NUDA, which was held by Ministry of Education of China in 2009.
The assessment indicator system of NUDA is“Combine objective evaluation with subjective evaluation, and objective evaluation as leading indicator”. The system including 4 primary indicator , which are “Faculty and resources”, “Scientific research level”, “Quality of personnel cultivation”, and “Discipline reputation”. The weights of indicators was determined by around 5000 experts who took part in NUDA.
“Light Industry Technology and Engineering” primary discipline including several secondary disciplines, and PPS ranked 7th with only “printing engineering” and “packaging engineering” participated in the assessment. It fully reflected the achievements of the discipline construction of PPS and the contribution of PPS to the discipline construction of WHU in the 4 years from 2009 to 2013.
The result of NUDA are helpful for our department to further understand the achievements and shortcomings, to make the direction of discipline construction of PPS more concise.
