On the afternoon of Jan. 12th, Dr. Wei Minchen, an assistant professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University visited our department to have academic exchanges with teacher Liu Qiang and students on the research topic of evaluation of LED lighting’s quality.


Wei Minchen systematically analyzed the status quo of the research field of evaluation of color quality of lighting sources, and illustrated the solutions to related problems. In addition, he also had academic discussions with our teachers and students on topics such as whiteness representation of objects, color adaptation and conversion of different lighting scenes, and evaluation of lighting of cultural relics and works of art.


Wei Minchen got his bachelor’s degree from Department of Light Sources and Illuminating Engineering of Fudan University and received his doctor’s degree from Department of Architectural Engineering of the Pennsylvania State University. He currently works in the Department of Building Services Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and takes charge of the color and lighting laboratory which enrolls doctors, post-doctors and research assistants. The laboratory focuses mainly on color and vision, LED spectrum, indoor and outdoor luminous environment, natural lighting and energy consumption of green buildings.
